Course Description

Sitar, a variant of ancient string instrument Veena, developed into its present form in 18th century. It has become one of the most popular string-plucked instrument in India & abroad. Its resonance is the result of its gourd, 7+13 strings. This course is affiliated with PrayagSangitSamiti, Allahabad.

Frequency: Twice A Week Class & Once A Week Class

Age-Range: 7 years & above

Class Duration: 45-60 Minutes

Semester Duration: 4-6 Months

About Ajivasan

Ajivasan, Earlier Known as Vasant Sangeet Vidyalay, was founded in 1932 in Srinagar by Acharya Jialal Vasant under the patronage of SMT.Rameswari Nehru.

The Institute has a reputation for providing scientific training in Hindustani classical music, and the students had the opportunity to perform with the master on several occasions.

Today the institute trains about 2000 students every year in Hindustani and western classical vocals, Instrumental music as well as Indian and western dance forms.

The institute also houses four state of the Art Sound Recording studios. Here we train students In professional singing and recording music tracks, films, songs, and TV and Radio Ads.

  • F and G major, D and E minor (candidate’s choice of either harmonic or melodic or natural minor)
  • Pentatonic scales starting on G and F (5 notes)
  • Chromatic scale in contrary motion starting on D
  • C major contrary motion scale
  • Triad of F and G major, D and E minor (root position and first inversion)
  • Chord of F7 and G7 (root position and first inversion)
  • 8- 10 peices from syllabus / lesson book

  • Bb and D major, G and B minor (candidate’s choice of either harmonic or melodic or natural minor)
